  • Submit entries by commenting below with a link or thumb of the deviations
  • One (1) lucky winner will receive a DeviantArt Print valued up to $30 USD!

Good luck, and have a fantastic week! :fella:

First, congratulations to all the winners of the last few weeks while I've been away! :hooray:

My entry for this week:
Old: Whisper from the past IV
New: 91111

The reason that I chose these two, above any of the others I found is the concept within the pictures themselves.

The "old" photo has a sense of newness about it in its presentation. HDR photography has been around for a while, but it's more a sentiment while looking at the photo and taking in the sunrise - a new beginning for an old piece of technology, perhaps. In addition to that, the setting - which was a marvelous choice - shows the same elements, with old buildings being bathed in the sunlight and the newer truck sitting in the shadow of what I presume to be the station house.

The "new" photo is also a coupling of both concepts of time - a newer train bearing "For the Fallen" as its name and displaying the artwork which honors the past, forcing a remembrance of the old while beholding the new. In perhaps a twist of irony, the train was once named "Terence Cuneo" after the British artist known for painting railways and also for military illustrations. Very fitting, I think, that a train bearing his name should also bear such artwork, a marriage of old scenery to new technology.
