Handling Gallery and Favourites Submissions in Your Group

Are you a part of a deviantART group whose Gallery and Favourites are messy or seem to be unorganized? This isn't an uncommon problem. There are many groups on dA that do not have a solid structure or even criteria for submissions to the Gallery and Favourites. The goal of this article is to help address this problem and inform you of a few methods to fix it!

How Can I Be Sure?

Here's a simple check list to help you determine if a group has a messy Gallery or Favorites:

  • Clarity - Are the names of the folders clear as to what they should contain? Are there descriptions of the folders anywhere?

  • Order - Are the folders ordered in a logical manner, or are they just randomly jumbled together in the same place?

  • Sub-folders - Do the sub-folders contained in a folder seem to be branches related to the main folder? The apples shouldn't fall far from the tree. ;)

  • Privileges - Are the Members of the group allowed to submit a restricted amount of deviations? Is there a time restriction? Are submissions approved by admins' vote?

If you answered "no" to any of these questions, then your group just might need some work done to the Gallery/Favourites. :noes:

How Do I Fix It?

There are a few ways to address the problem. One could start by making it so that your answer to the check list above is "yes" for each question. :) Here are a few other routes:

  • Moderation - Do you have a diligent team of admins who can actively moderate the submissions and handle them accordingly? Do you have guidelines for the admins to follow when considering a deviation's submission? If not, consider "hiring" some to help out the group!

  • Uninstall the Module - Many group founders have uninstalled the Gallery and/or Favourites module from their group, as they do not wish to handle submissions. This is wise if you're attempting to get your group's submissions under control. To do this, simply click on the Gallery or Favourites tab, click the Edit button, and click Uninstall as shown below.

  • Feedback - Gather feedback from your Members! Ask what they'd like to see the group Gallery/Favourites become!

Of course every group will have different methods of handling these submissions, but finding the right one can be somewhat difficult.  I encourage you to evaluate your group by the contents of this article to see how your group's submission method could be improved! I'd be happy to assist personally if nothing listed here is working for you.
